It’s soft-shell crab season—our favorite time of year! Check out this quick video of the molting process, where a “hard crab” sheds its old shell to make room for a new, larger one it’s been growing inside.
Soft-Shell Crab 101
Ever wonder how a crab becomes “soft-shell”? It all starts with molting—a natural process where a hard-shell crab sheds its old shell to grow. Inside, it’s been forming a larger shell, and when it breaks free, the new one is soft and delicate. This soft stage lasts only 12–24 hours while the crab absorbs water and salts to harden up. That short window is when they’re harvested and served as the seasonal delicacy we all love
Nature’s timing is deliciously perfect
How We Prepare Our Soft-Shell Crabs
Once the soft-shell crabs are at their peak, we sauté them to perfection in sweet butter infused with garlic and bold Caribbean Adobo spices. Served over fluffy rice pilaf and paired with a crisp tossed salad, this dish is the perfect way to enjoy the seasonal catch!
